APPLICATIONS AND MARKETS

Plastics

Shepherd Color’s inorganic pigments can be used in vinyl siding, window and door profiles to reduce, if not eliminate, the warping and twisting that comes with the temperature sensitivity of PVC products.

Our pigments can be used in composite decking materials to reflect infrared IR rays helping keep deck surfaces cooler and more comfortable for bare feet.

They are also well suited for use in automotive plastics and engineering resins due to their excellent heat stability.

Metallic silver can overflowing with bright blue pigment powder, Arctic brand with polar bear logo.

Products that use Arctic pigments stay cooler, which means they are less prone to sun damage and enable more comfortable and sustainable environments.

Pigments for Plastics

Many of our pigments are FDA compliant for food contact and can be used in plastics, such as lids and plastic ware.

This includes our newest IR black pigment, specifically used for improving recyclability of black plastic containers. Instead of using carbon black pigments that absorb IR wavelengths, our black pigments reflect these wavelengths, which allow black plastic to be sorted correctly at recycling centers, increasing sustainability.
