Tom Shepherd

Chairman & CEO, Shepherd Material Sciences

Tom Shepherd joined his family’s company, The Shepherd Material Science Company, in 1986 and currently serves as Chairman and CEO. Armed with a Biology degree from Princeton University and an MBA from Northwestern, Tom’s unique calling is to engineer purity of purpose and clarity of approach that empower current and future stakeholders to thrive. Chris Manning, President & General Manager

Chris Manning

President

Chris has been with Shepherd Color for 20 years and was promoted to President in 2022. Previously holding the role of Commercial Director, he managed the Global Sales teams & Distribution channels, Customer Experience teams, Marketing and Technical Support Groups. Chris holds a Ph.D in Colour Chemistry. Prior to joining Shepherd, Chris lived and worked in England and France and worked for large multi-national coatings and textile companies, holding positions in Marketing, Global Product Management and Technical Development.

He is currently a Board member of the National Coil Coating Association and has supported several other Coatings and Plastics Industry Associations. He was one of the original development teams of the Tencel textile fiber and has been in the colour business for 45 years. His favorite Shepherd Color is NTP Yellow 10P150.

Harshal Sanghani

Harshal Sanghani

Shepherd Color Commercial Segment Leader

Harshal has been with Shepherd Color since 2003. In his current role as Color Commercial Segment Leader, he manages the Global Sales teams & Distribution channels, Customer Experience teams, Marketing and Technical Support Groups. Previously, Harshal has had several engineering positions within the Operations team and became Product Manager in 2015 which is when he moved onto the commercial side of the business. He has a Bachelors in Chemical Engineering from National Institute of Technology - India, Masters in Industrial Engineering and an MBA from The University of Cincinnati.

During his free time Harshal enjoys spending time with his family, friends, traveling to new places and learning about different cultures.
Harshal’s favorite Shepherd Color pigment is the Orange 10P340 due to its chromaticity and because it widens the envelope of durable pigment use.

Mike Musick

Shepherd Technologies Commercial Segment Leader

Mike joined the R&D group of Shepherd Color in 2002 and focused on developing value-added pigments and introducing new functional materials. In 2012, Mike transitioned to Shepherd Technologies, pursuing additional opportunities to develop functional materials for high-performance specialty non-color applications, becoming the R&D manager for Shepherd Technologies in 2016. He is currently responsible for the commercial activities and development of Shepherd Technologies.

Mike obtained a Ph. D. in Chemistry from The Pennsylvania State University and a B.S. from the University of Pittsburgh. Driven by curiosity and desire to learn, he is an avid reader and enjoys his free time gardening and sampling new cuisines. His favorite Shepherd Color pigment is the brilliant reflective silver-coated Starlight® product, FL105.

Joel Houmes

Research & Development Manager

Joel has worked in the Research and Development department at The Shepherd Color Company for 25 years. In 2021, Joel became the R&D Manager and works to direct product development and knowledge expansion efforts. Joel loves solid state inorganic chemistry, the subject of his Ph.D., for the challenges it presents in understanding the origins of color and synthesis process.

When not assisting the R&D chemists in their technical pursuits, Joel coaches Ultimate Frisbee for the local university team, reads to expand his knowledge and works around his house. His favorite Shepherd Color Pigment is Black 1G for its chromatic simplicity and versatility.

Kevin Marsh

Global Operations Manager

Kevin leads our Global Operations organization which includes Supply Chain, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Engineering, and Process Development. He joined the company in late 2020 to lead the creation of a new Supply Chain function.

Kevin has a double major degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Mechanical Engineering / Engineering & Public Policy. Prior to joining us, Kevin spent 23 years working in the organic pigment and printing ink industries in Operations and Global Supply Chain leadership roles. Prior to that he worked in the petroleum refining catalyst industry in processing engineering and operations management roles. In his free time, Kevin likes to hike and bike. He is also a drummer in local band that plays tunes from the 1950’s to current times.

His favorite Shepherd Color is Dynamix Blue 30C588.

Chris Collesel

Quality, Product Safety & Sustainability Manager

Chris has been with Shepherd Color since 1998, starting his career as the process engineer for the Blue-Green color group. Since earning his B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Chris has spent his entire career in manufacturing including nearly 30 years in the color industry. Additionally, Chris has attained certifications in Project Management (CPM) and as an ASQ-trained Six Sigma Black Belt.

Chris heads up our Quality, Product Safety and Sustainability team whose focus is on creating robust quality processes throughout the organization, making our measurement systems deliver more reliable data, and ownership of all aspects of Product Safety Stewardship and the growing importance of Sustainability.

Chris likes to travel in his leisure time – cruising the Caribbean is a particular favorite. Chris’ favorite Shepherd Color is Blue 385.

Lindsey Stanfill

Human Resources Manager

Lindsey joined The Shepherd Color Company as the Human Resources Manager in March of 2020. She has worked in HR Management for over 12 years, 10 years of which has been in manufacturing. In manufacturing, she has found a deep appreciation for the people, the process, and the product that is produced.

Lindsey earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio and her MBA in International Business from Kean University in Union, New Jersey. In addition, she holds her certification in Professional Human Resources (PHR) through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).

In her spare time, Lindsey enjoys spending time with her family, reading, cooking, and coaching softball.

Her favorite Shepherd Color is Violet 11C.
